Mentor Coaching / Supervision
Introduction
Mentor Coaching / Supervision is key to the ongoing development of coaches, mentors, team coaches and supervisors and the maturation of the coaching profession. The European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), Association for Coaching (AC) and more recently the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as professional bodies have demonstrated the value they place on coaching supervision as a key part of professional practice.
The answer to this question:
Does this coach invest in coaching supervision from a professional supervisor?
is fast becoming the single most reliable indicator of a coach’s commitment to professional excellence.
Mentor Coaching/Supervision is all about helping coaches develop the capability to reflect on their practice and continuously develop through the exploration of their coaching work.
Mentor Coaching, which has been popularised by the ICF, is specifically targeted at the development of core coaching competencies as defined by the ICF. Mentor Coaching/Supervision, at Transcend, includes these dimensions and goes beyond as we work with our coaches to develop the macroskill of reflective practice as one of many ways to develop competency, capacity and capability.

Michelle Chan
Michelle started her coaching supervision work with her corporate clients in 2015 and with the students of Transcend’s ACTP and EQA programme from 2017. She became an ICF PCC markers accessor in 2018 and got her ESIA (EMCC Global Supervision Individual Accreditation) in Jan 2020.
Michelle has worked as a team coaching supervisor since 2020. She has learned a lot from both David Clutterbuck and Peter Hawkins’ team coaching supervision programme and has practised her team coaching supervision skills by supporting the team coaches who graduated from both David and Peter’s programmes. She believes and practises her supervision by supporting supervisees to understand better- both the client system and themselves- as part of the client system, and helps them reshape the way they work. She believes her supervisees have to undertake a journey of transformation themselves before they can help their clients experience the same change. Her work in supervision is geared to this end while always bearing in mind the context in which her supervisees are discharging their coaching duties.
